Message Board

There has been some kind of message board on the website almost since it started ten years ago. But, sadly, the time has come to bring down the curtain on it, for the moment at least...

Primarily you can blame the spammers. Lately I have been deleting at least a dozen fake accounts every day. Two months ago the board was hacked. I guess a security weakness in the phpBB software.

I hoped that changing the board software would help with the account problems. But it has not.

At the same time, the board has not been fulfilling its purpose in the way it used to. It was designed to be a place where visitors could talk to one another, post requests for information and have other users respond. But there seems to be far less interest in doing that these days and many more people who just want to be provocative and annoying.

The board has been taking up a ridiculous amount of my time lately, with almost zero benefit for the website. So I've decided I would much rather spend that time each day working on other parts of the site.
