Black Swan Gents' Darts Team

Membership:   around 25, aged 20-50 years

Team members are selected from darts players who attend the Black Swan. Two teams are entered in the Wooler & District League, eight members per team.

Each team plays alternately home and away, so there is a home game each week. Entry fees to Wooler & District League are paid by the landlord, Mr David Twiname.

In 1982 the team won eight trophies in local leagues.

Some of the darts players are regular visitors to the Bluebell Caravan
Site.

Black Swan Leek Club

Membership:   Membership:2 youths; 22 adults
Fees:   £2 p.a. youths; £20 p.a. adults

The club promotes the growing and showing of show leeks and organises numerous events to raise money for charity. There is an Annual Leek Show but compared with the fund raising events of the club and its members, this seems almost an after thought. In 1994/5 the club sent nearly £2,000 to Multiple Sclerosis Society. In 1995/96 they had raised £1,350 for Seahouses and District Cancer Aid. The fund raising events are always significant in the Belford social calendar and very well attended.

The 1995 event list is very typical:

April   Clay Pigeon Shoot   West Hall Farm
May   Hog Roast and Hoe Down   Detchant Farm
June   Barn Dance & Barbecue   Detchant Farm
July   Race Day   Bluebell Farm

(The races are on hobby horses with various local people bidding to sponsor races and riders as well as a tote. This year one of the hobby horses was mysteriously kidnapped and the story raised weeks of publicity in local papers.)
